“...and so they lived happily ever after”, mother finished, and shut the book. I smiled slightly, nodded.
“Does every story end like that, mommy?” I asked, pulling my sheets up. She smiled softly, pushed my brown hair aside.
“Yes, my love. Every story has its ups and downs, but it will end happy anyway, I believe”
With those words, she left me, closed my bedroom door. But I wasn’t tired. Why would I be? The clock was merely half past eight, and that was far too early for my liking. In fact, I was six, and any other boy my age would still be up by now! So, with that thought singing in my head, I pushed down my sheets and stood up. I bit my lip, pushed my door open and tip-toed out in the hallway, trying to avoid the creaking floorboards.
“I’m trying, love, but Greyback won’t listen to me. I simply can’t help him”, I heard my father’s voice from the kitchen. I heard my mother sigh, and she poured him a cup of coffee.
Who’s Greyback? I thought to myself. It was kind of a funny name, though. I shook my head, trying not to giggle.
When I got to the living room, I peered to the great window above the couch. It was a full moon tonight, and I smiled. I loved the moon. It was so fascinating and large and beautiful. Usually I was fast asleep when the moon was showing on the black night sky, but not tonight. I simply had to take this opportunity; I would never forgive me if I didn’t!
So, with that in mind, I sneaked out to the hallway, stuck my tiny feet in my wellingtons and opened the door. The chilly late-autumn air brushed against my cheek as I staggered out of our tiny garden, and into the woods just behind the house. Towards the moon.

I hadn’t walked very far when I heard branches breaking behind me, and I took a halt.
“I-is someone there?” I whispered out in the cold air. Suddenly, I wished that I was home in my bed, safe with the words of my mother guarding over me. It sounded like someone tried to answer my calling, but they couldn’t make words. Maybe it wasn’t a human? It could be a rabbit, or maybe a deer. Father had told me that animals always reacted different when the full moon was up.
After that, I was smashed to the ground, and I felt a searing pain on my chest. Felt my blood boil, and how my body started to change.

After that, I simply wasn’t in love with the moon anymore.

Chapter One

“Remus, darling”, my mother called, and I slowly approached her in the kitchen. “Your father would like a word with you, he’s in his study.”
I nodded slightly, turned around. I could feel my mother’s nervous glances hit my spine, and I shivered slightly. I honestly didn’t want to meet my father alone, but I knew that I had no other choice. So, I took a deep breath, and pushed open the door to his study.
“You wished to see me, father”, I said, observing the tip of my socks.
“Yes. Remus, I’ve finally got back the answer from Professor Dumbledore.”
As soon as he’d said that, my heart sank even more. Of course. I would get denied. I simply just knew it. Nobody wanted a freak like me on their school. I’d just ruin everything, and probably screw someone up. It wasn’t safe.

Ever since that night in early November, my life went downhill. It turned out that the animal whom attacked me were in fact Fenrir Greyback, a famous werewolf that my father had a tricky relationship with. Earlier that evening, my father and Greyback had been in an argument that ended with Greyback storming out of their meeting place, very upset. Apparently, he took revenge on me. So since that day, I’ve locked down in the basement whenever the night of the full moon was dawning. Every moon I was entirely alone, with nothing to do than punishing myself. Ripping my skin apart, trying to end my life. It was entirely my fault that I got in that situation. I am one clumsy fag that went out in the woods that night, or at least, that’s what my father said.

“...Remus John Lupin, are you even listening to me?” my father barked, and I snapped out of my thoughts.
“Yes father, I’m sorry. Can you repeat that?” He rolled his eyes at me, but waved the letter once again.
“You’re accepted, you lucky bastard. Professor Dumbledore has accepted you at the school. You’re going to meet him straight after the sorting to discuss your... furry problem.”
I couldn’t believe my ears. Did he really? Was I going to Hogwarts? But how? I was a werewolf; I was a danger to each and everyone that tried to approach me! I’d learned that through the years.
“But, mind you”, my father continued. “If you screw anything up, if I hear of one single mistake, then you’ll be going straight home. And not even Merlin knows when you’ll be getting out of that basement!”
I sighed, nodded slightly, and left the study with a proper; “Yes father, thank you father.”
