He took a sip from his glass as he told her about her coming christmas. He wanted to spit it out to show how shocked he became. How could anyone possibly want to spend christmas at school? He knew that some students did - but he had never talked to any of them.
"You can't spend christmas here", he said, putting down his glass on the table. "I'd rather spend christmas in an asylum than here!" Sure, he overreacted, but Noel really didn't understand her. They had such different backgrounds, and Noel definetly had the better one.

“Well, an orphanage is like an asylum” she muttered and took a sip of her drink.
“I was invited to Eric’s trip, but I can’t afford it, unfortunately” she said and shrugged. Her parents had (surprisingly) left her an amount of money, but she used them strictly to school stuff. She had everything written down in a strict budget so they would cover her school years.
“Hogwarts is nice during Christmas though, not as strict as during the semesters” she said with a smile.

Ouch. His comment about the asylum might not have been the best one. He felt bad for her. And he was angry at Eric. Of course it wasn't his fault that his family were going on a trip, but still. Hell, Audrey wasn't even his responsibility either. Noel had no reason to be upset with Eric - but he was. He couldn't help it.
"Can't you spend christmas with some other friend?" Noel asked, still not sold on the whole staying-at-hogwarts-over-christmas-idea.

Audrey laughed.
“Yeah, right, which friend? It’s not like I have tons to choose from” she said bitterly and took a bite to eat. She took her time to chew and swallow.
“Besides, the whole Christmas-is-a-family-thing is kind of a big deal, so I guess people don’t want outsiders to celebrate with them” she said, shrugging. Sure, she could probably ask some of the players in the Quidditch team, but they were probably going to say no anyway, since Christmas was a family thing, after all.
“You never told me how you’re celebrating Christmas?” she asked with a smile.

Oops, he apparantly went too far. He had thought that she had tons and tons of friends, she just seemed like that kind of person. He was wrong. But she still had more friends than he did, it would impossible for her to have less.
"I either celebrate at home or in France, with my cousins", he answered, not willing to comment on the other things she said. It was all true, but it sucked. "My mom is french", he added. Not that he thought that she would care or anything, but still.

“France, really? Nice. Are you going skiing?” she asked and looked curiously at him. She cleared her throat.
“Sorry, never mind. Muggle thing” she said and shook her head. She had gone skiing a couple of times with her parents when they were still alive, and she had loved it. She couldn’t do it now, unfortunately, but she had promised herself to go on a trip once she had a job and started to earn money. She reached for her hairband and pulled it off the ponytail, letting the hair fall on her back.
“Can you speak French?” she asked with a smile.

He had never heard of skiing before, so he automatically wrinkled his forehead when she said it. He didn't get the chance to ask about it, though. She continued to speak way too soon.
"Uh, no", he lied. He was pretty much fluent in French - his mom always spoke French at home. It was embarrasing though, he thought. He had no clue why, it was just a language.

Audrey saw his reaction when she asked about skiing – he had probably no clue about it. She nodded.
“That’s too bad, speaking two languages are cool” she said and leaned back in the chair. She smiled.
“So, skiing, I guess you’ve never heard of it? Not even your muggle-interested mum?” she asked with a (nice) laugh.

He shook his head. His mom was interested in muggle-stuff but to be honest, she probably didn't know that much about it. But at least she cared about it, which was something.
"Nope", he answered, plainly. "What is it? It sounds like some food or something, to be honest."

Audrey laughed.
“It probably sounds really weird, but you’re standing on two pieced of wood, and with them you’re gliding down snow covered mountains” she said and realised how idiotic it sounded. She just didn’t know how to explain it better.
“I think I have a picture of me when I’m younger while skiing, I can show you” she said and smiled.
“You should try it, it’s really fun”
