The differences between American and British English aren't that big in my opinion, at least not regarding the spelling. Insert a "U" for British, add an "L", replace the "Z" with "S", mostly.

Like.

Neighbour. Travelling. Recognise.

But I'm more used to British expressions and such, meaning I do have troubles with understanding American sometimes. After all, I don't read much American literature and whilst I do read fanfiction by Americans, they tend to be understandable.

Sometimes the languages clash, and I can't understand what they want with a certain wording. For example, one word with different meaning in English and American. But usually I can figure it out fast enough. : )

But I don't think American is that bad as some people portray it. I do despise it though, when there's an American spelling on British stuff (quotes by Brits for example). It's one of my pet peeves, I suppose.

I think I speak more British than American English. I've adapted my accent after friends and TV shows. I remember when cockney slipped into my life. I like to think I've trained that accent away though, haha. : )

But yeah. I've got American friends as well. I don't find their accent intolerable. : p
